CROON ME A LULLABY, HUM ME SAME
Croon me a lullaby, hum me same,
As the wind sough,
Let your silvery voice fuse therewith
And forge mellow music.
Croon me a lullaby, hum me same,
For the breeze is brisk
And the trees rustle in chorus,
And apt for the moment.
Croon me a lullaby, hum me same,
Let the lilt of your lip
Be freighted with love
And reverberate in my soul.
Croon me a lullaby, hum me same,
May the pulse of your song
Be achingly felt
And sate my long-for yen.
Croon me a lullaby, hum me same,
For I do not mind
Being an infant once again,
Revelling in your tender arms.
Croon me a lullaby, hum me same,
Let it sound as those
When at my mother's knee
Was sung those far-off days.
Croon me a lullaby, hum me same,
Let your raven tresses
Caress the grizzled man
Into welkin and beyond.
Croon me a lullaby, hum me same,
Until the night fades
Into the sunlit bathed morn,
And may it be tardy to chime.
